Environment and Social Justice

We live in a world where we face multiple major challenges in terms of the Climate Emergency, and growing rates of global and national inequality. Locally, the town has faced more regular major flooding events, affecting homes and businesses, and many in Bradford on Avon and the wider community face increasing financial struggles.

As Christian's we are called to act as custodians of God's creation, and to respond to with love and charity towards those facing hardship.  This can be hard in a very complex world, with so many voices making sometimes contradictory calls for action, and national and global leaders equally at odds in how these challenges can be faced, and at times even questioning if they are real at all. At times it can feel overwhelming, and consensus very far away.

Bearfield's our Environment and Social Justice group meets regularly and brings actions and discussion points to Trustees, Leadership and in Sunday meetings.  We encourage all of our members to pray and reflect on actions that they could personally take, and that God gives strength to local, national and global leaders to play their part.

In practical terms, we have taken the step to partially re-wild Bearfield's grounds and are actively looking at additional measures, while respecting the Listed status of the Bearfield site.

Bearfield to host People's Emergency Briefing

At the end of November, Bearfield will hosting a showing of the Nataional Emergency Briefing, which brings together leading UK experts in climate science, food security, health, economics, national security and nature.

It presents a calm, evidence-based overview of how the climate and nature crisis is affecting everyday life in Britain - and what the science says about risks and responses.

The initiative is explicitly non-partisan and supported by a wide range of organisations, including the Church of England, National Trust, WWF, the Royal Meteorological Society and many others.

Faith communities have long traditions of stewardship, care for the vulnerable, and intergenerational responsibility. We believe this is an important moment for thoughtful, compassionate local dialogue.
